Are angels real?
The word angel comes from the Greek word Angelos which in English means messenger.
The Persian word for angels is angaros, which translates to courier.
The name is appropriate because in a lot of belief systems angels are messengers of truth from a deity or deities.

In fact, Sumerian references predate the Hebrew book of Genesis and may have been an influence.
The idea for angels having wings may have been an artistic one inspired by pagan cultures where it is common for gods and heroes to have wings.
